Here's how do get linux installed on an old Sony Vaio PCG-505G laptop with its external cdrom plugged into a PCMCIA card.

1. Plug laptop in
2. Insert linux boot cd (e.g Redhat 8)
3. Boot
4. at prompt type:
boot: linux ide2=0x180,0x386

Then treat as normal redhat install.

(Thanks JLP)

Here is the traffic graph for my smoothwall firewall when one 'someone' started using bittorrent:

The upper half shows incomming data and the lower outgoing.

Isn't Yum great?

Here's how I added spammassassin to my MailScanner defences:

yum install spamassassin
Gathering header information file(s) from server(s)
Server: Fedora Core 2 - i386 - Base
Server: Fedora Core 2 - i386 - Released Updates
Finding updated packages
Downloading needed headers
Resolving dependencies
...Dependencies resolved
I will do the following:
[install: spamassassin 2.63-8.i386]
I will install/upgrade these to satisfy the dependencies:
[deps: perl-Net-DNS 0.45-3.i386]
[deps: perl-Digest-HMAC 1.01-12.noarch]
[deps: perl-Digest-SHA1 2.07-4.i386]
[deps: perl-Time-HiRes 1.55-2.i386]
Is this ok [y/N]: y

The way that yum solves dependencies is great.
